The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is the most important event of the year for the Russian economy. In June, it brings together leading politicians, company representatives and experts from all over the world, offering them a platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges in global and Russian markets.

Partnership between equals

Russia is one of the key pillars in Wintershall Dea’s portfolio and the region where the biggest increase in production is planned. We have been operating successfully in Russia for more than 25 years, relying on long-term strategic partnerships with Russian companies. Together, we produce hydrocarbons in Western Siberia and Southern Russia.

Over 19,000 visitors from more than 145 countries – including many heads of state and CEOs – travelled to SPIEF 2019. Mario Mehren (CEO), Thilo Wieland (Member of the Board, Region Russia, Latin America and Transportation) and Torsten Murin (Managing Director Wintershall Dea Russia) were at the international forum on behalf of Wintershall Dea and met with major figures such as Russia’s Minister of Energy, Alexander Novak, and Minister of the Environment, Dmitry Kobylkin. At the Business Dialogue Russia-Germany, the importance of the strategic partnership with Russia was highlighted. The meeting was also attended by Germany’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Peter Altmaier, and the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig. “Natural gas is an all-rounder”, said Mario Mehren at the panel discussion “The Impact of the Natural Gas Engine on the Economy and Climate”, adding that Europe could not achieve its own climate targets without Russian gas.
